llinois must re-invest and expand its manufacturing sector. We cannot survive with only service based jobs. Illinois made the mistake of giving up on manufacturing with the thought being that we were unable to compete with low wage economies that produce low quality goods. In the new global economy, there is great demand for high-quality goods.

We must re-write our tax code to ensure that we raise the revenue we need for our budget, but it must be raised in a way that is fair and equitable for all Illinois residents... we simply cannot continue to raise taxes to solve our problems. We must find a way to balance our budget and run our government in an effective and efficient manner.

Government should always set the good example and provide adequate retirement benefits for the front-line and public safety workers who protect and serve our neighborhoods. I will oppose any and all efforts to reduce benefits owed to current employees.

Our budget is broken. Years of financial mismanagement coupled with the downturn in the economy have left us on the brink of financial ruin. We must correct our budget problems and we must do so immediately. When elected I will propose what I call a Prioritized Funding Bill. This bill would require the legislature and governor to prioritize every item the legislature spends money on.

Our system of education is woefully underfunded by our state government. This results in high property taxes and schools that don't have the resources to properly educate our children. I will propose a Prioritized Funding Plan that will force the state to live up to its obligation and properly fund our public schools.

Every woman is entitled to make health decisions with the advice of her doctor and without the intrusion of politicians. I am pro-choice and will always oppose legislation that infringes upon a woman's right to choose.
